Default Master cyl swap

On the 87 vette, the master cyl is a single resevoir that is no longer available.

Will a 88 or later duel resevoir master cyl fit the mounts and will the line connect to the 2 res master cyl?

My plastic res is cracked all to s*** and literally falling apart. Filled it with fluid yesterday and today noticed it was wet all around the connector pipe. The thing is cracked and coming apart.

Rockauto.com has the single reservoir OE style in stock if you're concerned about retro-fitting something.

Mostly need the cup and the pipe to the 2nd port. After looking at it, I think its like other yrs as far as the master itself, its the cup/resevoir thats odd being a single. Guess I can try to find just the cup...

Don't know why you couldn't swap to newer - it's still a split system, and looking at the NAPA site, that's what they sell for the '87. Always figured that GM went to the 2nd reservoir to ding us on repairs.

Thats what I'm thinking...
I'm not sure if this current master cyl is the original or not...it has 2 ports on top for cups but one is just a fitting to feed from the rear port where the res is located...
So I'm assuming that the only real difference is that the 88+ model masters come with a separate cup for each port instead of the single that tried to feed both. In either case all I need is the resevoir(s)...but I may end up having to replace the whole damn thing. Its shocking to see what time, heat and vibration has done to that plastic cup...the cup itself looks as though it was made of glass and had been dropped from 10 ft...spider web like cracks all thru the thing. The fitting to the pipe..cracked and pieces breaking away. Thats what started leaking.
I made a fuel line hose clamp "band-aid" for the fitting to hold it together until I can find the parts...seems to be holding for now but not for long.

Default Just add the second cup in front

I had the same issue to deal with due to my rear cup leaking on my 1986. The front is just a cap and a tube to connect to rear cup. I called Corvette Central and they said to just add a new cup in front. So, I bought two new reservoirs, two new seals, and one new cap. The parts were very cheap and it works perfectly. I did all new brakes recently...pads, bias spring, ss lines, rotors. I can tell you the front cup is the front brakes, as the fluid level dropped quickly when the new pads wore in. The beauty now is that you won't run low on fluid as quickly when the pads wear. Hope this helps.

Default Fitting new reservoirs

I managed to suction out just enough fluid to do the swap without allowing air in when I did this. It was nice to not have to bleed it at the time. Of course, I had to later when I really did the rest of the brakes and lines.

I replaced my one cup plus tube setup with the two separate cups because I wanted to be able to tell which brake circuit had a problem.

You can tell even with the single cup -- there's a divider in the bottom
of the cup.

Would either of these work on your car? I've got a bunch of single and double cup units, removed from brand-new late '80s C4s being turned into race cars. Been shelved ever since.
