Default opti question

Water pump just starting leaking on my 1996 CE LT1. Can find a ac delco pump but having trouble finding ac delco opti. Corvette Central carries ACCEL does anyone know if it is any good or where I can purchase a AC Delco. Keeping in mind that I will have to get them to ship to Canada. Priced opti at GM dealer this morning $1107.45 Only ac delco I can find are remanufactured ones. Are they any good.
thanks

I would check with Chris Petris of Petris Enterprises. Chris takes OEM Optispark distributors and improves them by shoring up their shortcomings.

Chris does not do this on a full-time basis. Now he operates his shop, writes tech articles and travels the country quite a bit giving seminars at the larger Vette shows.

I would suggest contacting him and allowing him some time to respond.

Chris is the BEST concerning this particular part. Also very good at anything related to a C4.

If it runs fine, I would change the water pump and be done with it. Why throw away a perfectly fine functioning part? A little coolant dripping on the opti....especially the '95/'96 units...doesn't hurt them. I've changed plenty of water pumps and left the opti in place and things are just fine. Geez, with that approach, perhaps a power steering pump swap is in order, as well as a timing chain, thermostat, belt, radiator and heater hoses? Just sayin...

If your opti is still the original, you could just replace the cap & rotor as a maintenance procedure. Delphi kits are available on-line in Canada for $2/300.

If your car runs fine, leave it alone. What part of Canada? I have some wholesale connections there.

Thanks for the feedback, however I think I will install a new opti if I can get one that's not remanufactured. Will ask again has anybody used an ACCEL opti. Corvette Central has them. If so have it been good or was there any problems.

Are you sure the GM dealer wasn't quoting the repair cost, as in they thought they were going to do it for you? That is not a $1,100 part, but it is a $1,100 dealership job.

Summit, E-Bay, Rockauto, etc. There are still Delco's out there to be had. I think $300-$400 range, new.

Opti at gm dealer $1107, water pump $289. Labour quoted at 3.5 hours. Keep in mind that everything cost more in Canada. Found a ac delco water pump for $149.00 plus $60 to ship and ended up ordering a Delphi for $380.00 plus $54.00 to ship. Thanks for the advice, now all I have to do is wait the 10 days for the parts to arrive. Car sitting with small leak from water pump. (believe it just started recently) Car was running great. Only noticed leak because I was showing the engine to a friend.
