I posted yesterday about my L83 engine needs replacing because it spun a bearing. I've been checking online for a professionally rebuilt L83 and came across the website: automotix.net, who offer a rebuilt 1984 Corvette L83 long block engine for $1176, new parts that meet or exceed GM specs are used exclusively, 7yr - 70,000mi warranty, $199 core chrg, $175 shipping. They say their engine failure rate is 2%. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, your help so far has been great!
Sometimes not as good as the warranty. Most of the times, they will pay for replacing the camshaft or whatever failed. Guess who has to pay for yanking the thing and shipping it to them.
You are close to the cost of a GM Goodwrench crate 350 long block. Probably some dealers that have them laying around and you could buy for around $1400 or so. They are 4 bolt main blocks, have the old 195-202 929 cam, and are rated at 260 hp with a 4 barrel carb and headers.
Back when I used to do engine replacements I used ATK because they had a warrantee which included labor to replace based on the Mitchell flat rate labor guide. It was nice to know that I wouldn't have to do the job a second time for free.
