Default Callaway wheels

Can someone school me on what to look for when buying a set of 1987 Callaway wheels. So far I know they switched from 16" to 17" sometime midway through 87. The ones I have seen online very, some say Dymag only and some say Callaway on them. I realize they were made in England by Dynameg i. e (spelling)?. Which ones are more sought after i.e. size and stampings. I have a line on a set but have only seen PIC's. I am still waiting on reply about diameter. They are silver and say Callaway on them. I have seen some sets on EBAY and other sites for sale, rage from asking $5,900-$5,000 for refurbished sets to $1,000 ea. for used cond.? Realisticly what is a set worth in todays economy in used condition. Better yet what would be a good purchase price? Thanks!

The 87 wheels were 16". Prices on those are typically a lot lower than the 17" Dymag wheels that came on the 88+ b2ks. The Corvette Challenge cars also used the 17" Dymag.

The 17" wheels that say Callaway on them typically go for the most money. Ive seen them sell anywhere between $2000-8000 for a set! Most selling on the lower to middle of that range. The last set that sold for 8k was many years ago. The Challenge dymags that say Corvette on them, I have seen them sold for anywhere between $1000-2500.

Did the ones stamped Callaway come in 17" only? Also do they all have the same backspacing regardless of year and will the backspacing work on a late model C4 without spacers? Thanks for the info much appreciated!

Oh I didn't see any center caps in the PIC's. Are the available reproduction or are they a mother to find and $$$$$. He may have them not sure but I will know more tomorrow. I just want to get educated if I decide to make an offer.

If memory serves me, those were 16-inch Dymags on the '88 Challenge cars and 17s on the '89s. Only ID in '88 was a small DYMAG label and another small label that said something about magnesium and made in England. Early Callaways used 16s. Don't remember how they were ID'd. These 16s are "88 CC wheels.

Here's a link that shows all the different C4 dymag wheels. The 17's will fit early or late cars without adapters as they split the difference in offset. They'll stick in a little on the early cars and stick out a little on the late cars (about 9mm or 3/8"). The 16's have the 87 and earlier offset and really aren't suitable for the later cars.

Values are all over the place - the set of 16's on ebay were bought off craigslist 2 weeks ago for $250. Big thing to look out for is bends/cracks as many of the non-Callaway stamped wheels were used in racing and have seen a hard life. Refurbishing is about $400/wheel if they need straightening and/or welding. If you're patient, you can find a solid set for $1-$2k. If you're patient & lucky, you can find a set for a few hundred.
