Found a wire on the RheoStat
Whoohoo!
For sure on 1987's, probably other years. My car has C60 (Delco Bose), but it should be identicle on regular systems.
Since it is virtually impossible to get to the wires off of the rheostat, I gave up, and put my guages on a swtich, so my lights are either on, or off. There is no dimming.
Reading my radio schematic today, the grey wire on the black(bottom) connector is controlled by the lighting rheostat! Whoohoo, the best part is that it is super-simple to get to. Just pull the radio out, and splice into it.
Now you know. :)
