Default Headlight not turning up

Hey everyone - got an 89 vert vette. My right headlight is not flipping 100% of the way. I have spun the **** and that won't even get it to the "on" position. Is this motor just fried or is there another fix?

Thanks and cheers!

It might be your relay, had to replace mine, also did the motor make any noise when you put your headlights on? replaced headlight motor also because of grinding. check relay first.

You don;t have relays in the 89. Relays existed in 87 and prior yr models. After 87 they changed the drive design and operationn system to modules and took the limit switches OUT of the motor.

What YOU have is classic bushing failure. There are 3 bushings that roll against each other to act as shock absorbers to prevent premature gear wear. Old style gears would wear out in months like they were turning all; day...because there was no dampner in the system.

These "delron" bushings solve that problem. Plenty of write ups on the fix. Parts will be $0.29 and the labor will be 3 hrs on the 1st motor, (side does not matter) and 45 minutes on the 2nd motor.

Do a search here for the many threads describing the repair proceedure. I think you can also get some good tips on YouTube.

Sorry thought they all had relays from 84 to90

No worries...the changes are hard to keep up with...I keep forgetting that not all C4s had an HEI distributer !

They changed the system in 88 IIRC...they may have had a single for a yr or 2 then went to modules. I know it was anything after 87 changed in some way. The 84-87 motors had some tricky limit switches inside the motor along WITH the series of relays that just made a complex system even more fr agile than it looked... The hot fix for the early cars is to convert to 88 & up motors with the module.

I agree with leesvet, more then likely the motors need to be rebuilt ( gears and bushings) found mine on e b month ago and took a whole 45 minutes to do both of them, very simple job and did not even loose any blood, lol around 25.00 for 2 new gears and 6 bushings.
