I bought my first vette today. A 1991 convertible. I want to change the oil and get a tune up before I start to enjoy. Any suggestions for a reliable mechanic in Monmouth county?
Dominic, I think you should do them both yourself.
Tune ups are a lot easier to do than in the 50's and 60's,
change the spark plug wires one at a time, change the spark plugs one at a time,
change the air filter,
and then get someone to change your fuel filter.
if it runs good now, it will run better after that.
DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO A QUICK LUBE PLACE TO CHANGE THE OIL.
Your car is a specialty vehicle, and almost nobody knows anything about it.
ESPECIALLY a quick lube place.
When you take your car to a place for service, look in the employee parking lot, and if you see a bunch of run down beaters, go someplace else.
Auto Zone and O'Reilly"s takes used oil and recycles it for free.

Thank you all for the good advise. I need it! I'm new to this and I want to do most things right. Monmouth County, New Jersey, sorry about that. I live in Middletown, NJ
I'm also a newer owner from Red Bank and tried to find a specialist around the area. No luck finding anyone local to us who specializes in Vettes, but there are a few speed shops around. I took mine to one of them in Red Bank to have an ABS issue looked at and just have them go over the whole car- just in case there were things I may have missed. I didn't get the greatest feeling off of them, but I wonder if it was b/c they are more into performance upgrades over repairs and upkeep.
After more research I found Corvette Paramedics in Mt Holly (Burlington County). Obviously as their name implies they specialize in Vettes and the owner actually said he doesn't accept anything else unless it is a favor for a good customer. It was a very impressive shop and they were very good to deal with. They had no problem diagnosing and repairing the ABS, they took care of a few other small things for me and they actually gave me an estimate on absolutely everything that the car could use or will need in the future (even though I didn't ask for it). It was just a good feeling knowing they actually took the time to inspect everything. A little far from our area (about an hour), but well worth it in my opinion. Good luck with the car and let me know if you find anyone good local.
Thank you for the info. I was actually looking at some places in Red Bank! I will check out Corvette Paramedics in Mt Holly and in the meantime if I find something closer thats good I let you know. Thank you again, I really appreciate it.
Sounds good! I'll keep a look out for a triple black 91 through the streets of Red Bank and say hi. With my luck it'll be some other random owner who would think I was a weirdo!
