Does anybody know the best source for ECMs? Is there differences for years? Mine would be for late '86 with Auto Trans. The one in my car now is a rebuilt one, I'm curious if it's the right one.I know most of the Catalog houses sell them, but do they get them from same rebuilder?
thanks
Barrier :)
Advance and AutoZone remanufactured ECMs both come with the exact same remanufactured sticker on them leading me to believe they use the same supplier. The one from Advance is the same price and has a lifetime warranty. -Matt-
BTW, the '86 will fit an '86-89. There is a 'beefier ECM that superceeds the 1227165 or whatever your part number is (last 3 digits I know are 165). The updated one is supposed to be better--I dunno if it really is. A lifetime warranty is a lifetime warranty ya know, so the added price might not make it worthwhile.
In my opinion best place to purchase a ECM is from the Chevy dealer. They will have the latest upgraded ones. I've seen a lot of problems with after market rebuilds and no I don't work for GM. 84CF and 91 ZR-1.
