Default Jesel Rocker Install with Pics

Just thought I would share some pics and a how to for installing Jesel Shaft Rockers on my AFR 195 heads. The part number for the Jesel Small block chevy/AFR kit is 336060 and I chose the 1.6 rockers for a little more lift.

These rockers get rid of the pesky guide plates, rocker studs, and stud mount rockers. They are designed to increase stability at higher rpms.

Here is a picture of the 4 torx head bolts included in the kit to make room for the stand. These took the place of my ARP's that were installed before.

.100 spacers that were used to get the rockers sweep centered on the valve stem.

Stand and spacers installed to the old rocker stud holes.

Rocker sweep pattern

One set of rockers installed. Choosing the correct pushrod length is a little tricky because you only have about .080 of play in the adjuster on the rocker. Also, you have to keep the adjuster at least a half turn out from seated to a maximum of 2 full turns. The rockers come set with the adjusters at one turn. When I measured with an adjustable push rod, it came to 7.025". I then added .030 for preload to the hydraulic chevy lifters which came to 7.055. One turn on the adjuster is .040 so when I set the preload on the lifter I used 3/4 of a turn which equals .030.

Clearancing the Lt4 Valve Covers for the stand. Minor clearancing on the top of the valve cover for adjuster screws is not shown.

Looks good, I need those but in a offset intake for my AFR245s. I can't wait to install mine. Let us know how it turns out!

Looks slick. What cam are you running? What rpms will you be turning?

I'm running a CC503 224/230 now but considering upgrading to the XFI280 230/236. I broke a couple of rocker studs last month which took out my composite valve covers and pushrods. I decided to get the Jesel's instead of upgrading all my rockers to 7/16". Jesel was nice enough to offer me a military discount so it made the switch a no brainer.

Once I get the XFI280 put in I might shoot for 6800 rpm.

Your valvetrain should be more than stout enough for that.

Wow total overkill....nothign wrong with that though.

Good excuse to add a hairy solid roller down the road.
They are a nice system stable as hell. Love mine.

What do you plan to use for valve covers? Finding aftermarket covers that will clear the alternator is hard to do. The ones I found that are notched, are notched on the passenger side and not the drivers side like a vette needs. I ended up going with a set of proforms. They are 1/4 in taller then stock. But still had to do some grinding on the alternator case. Will (rklessdriver) took a set and notched his own.
BTW those do look good!!!

Edit to add, I was just trying to clear scorpian 1.65 rockers.

I'm interested in your valve cover choice, as well. I used some sheet aluminum valve covers and notched them. It's still a tight fit between the alternator and the valve cover and the rocker shaft.

I'm interested in your Proforms. Is it the ones with black crinkle finish and the red Chevrolet lettering? Can you post a part number for the valve covers that you are using?

Right now I'm sticking with the LT4 Valve covers which took a considerable amount of clearancing. I will try to put up a picture of the clearancing I did.

.

The ones I have are the 141-130 (polished) the crinkle finished ones are 141-131 It may be tomorrow before I can do it, but I will take some pictures of them and the alternator to show you how they fit.
FWIW we just couldnt get the composite valve covers to clear the rockers. I dont know if it is due to the scorpian rockers being bigger then other brands or if it had something to do with the AFR heads. But after smoothing things out inside, we still lacked a good 1/4"

Sorry, these questions are a little off topic.

This in on a 93 LT1, right?
What intake manifold are you running that allows you to have the distributor up top?

Thanks for the info and part number. I put up the pic for the clearancing for the LT4 covers. Guess it won't really help you with your 1.65 Scorpions.

Got love the shaft system. A little spendy, but damn nice.
