Default Overheating

I have a stock 1987 with a rebuilt engine with 8K on it

It was running well and tonight is started to overheat. Why??

The water pump is dry and the bearings seem OK, the radiator holds fluid - no leaks and is full. The top hose is not colapsed. I can not see the bottom one. It is hot here (108-109). I did power wash the engine – maybe a wire blown off??

Any ideas? It is a shopping mall parking lot for the night – I will try to make the 5 miles tomorrow when it is stone cold.

What should I look for?

- bad thermostat? I can remove it
- head gasket leak? – don’t know

It could be a bad thermostat.

How is the rad? Is it clean? Does air move through it well?

It was the thermostat - I put the old and new in a pot of boiling water. The new one opened and the old one did not. I replaced it and the car is not overheating.

Thanks all
