I am starting a new thread as my problem was not my driven gear.
I installed a 37 tooth driven gear which should have worked with my red 17 tooth drive gear but it chewed it up. My original gear was a 36 tooth which is unavailable. Then I tried a 35 tooth with the same results. Both times I inspected the drive gear for defects and found none.
Next I checked for drive gear movement on the shaft and to my surprise the whole output shaft moved in and out, not side to side slop but in and out of the yoke. Is this normal? I would think not.
Is there a keeper or retaining ring on the shaft to keep from this kind of play.
I have scoured the shop manuals and have found nothing on this problem.
Any suggestions?

Thank you for the link, I have posted and just waiting on the mediator to approve the post. I am thinking just to pull it and have it gone through this winter.
