Default No wipers

My windshield wipers have stopped working on my 96. For those of you who have had this Happen to them, do I need to buy a new multifunction switch wand/stalk or the piece that sits in the steering colum. My cruise control no longer works either and stopped working at the same time. This makes me think it is the stalk. I wouldn't think both wiper motors themselves would go out at the same time.

Any Input?

At the risk of being a wiseguy (not the intent), have you checked the fuse?

Mine was the stalk

They'd work if I'd raddle it around
Wound up replacing the whole column because of the tilt bushings
That problem also went away.

my 86 wipers quit working because the motor over travelled, and the crank, under the leaf screens in front of the windshield, struck the body, and the motor kept on running till it self destructed.
If you buy a new wiper motor, I would love to buy your black cap off your old wiper motor.

Guess I should have mentioned that yes, I did indeed check the fuse and it was good. replaced it anyway but with no luck. I guess the next step is to start taking things apart and see what is getting power and what isnt.

Coupeguy, if I end up having to replace the motor, you will be the first to know.

Mine quick after they had been intermittently working for a while. I put some contact cleaner on the connections and it has been fine ever since. A cheap fix before you start tearing things apart.

Oftentimes, the issue is in the cap. The FSM has list of checks to do to narrow it down before you start taking things apart.

yep...that cap is where ALL the magic happens...

use great caution if you decide to disassemble to repair or inspect. It has contacts inside that can fall apart or fall out and there really is not a good reference for putting all the pieces back together again..and the "cap" and its inerds are impossible to find.

Pardon my ignorance but what cap exactly are you talking about?
