Default Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

Hello!
I´m looking for catalytic converter for my Corvette 1992 LT1 5,7l Supercharged.

I found two direct fit solutions from Magnaflow.
23409+23408 49 state legal and for California 36408+36409.

What´s the different between the 2 systems? I don´t know USA laws, because i´m from Austria / Europe. Are there stricter exhaust measurement specifications for Lambda, CO and HC?
In Austria i´ll need :
Lambda: 0,97 und 1,03,
CO: at idle max. 0,5 Vol.-% and at min. 2000 1/min: max. 0,3 Vol.-%
HC: max. 60 ppm.

It´s possible to use the cat ystems from Magnaflow for our exhaust gas values?

How many cell counts both solutions?

Are both systems caramic or metall cats?

Do you´ve experience with the life time of the Magnaflow cats?

Thank you and BR

Default Cats

Matalic core units are usually for high heat application such as being right after a turbo. They typically have a lower cell count 100-2000 typically. Ceramic core units are more efficient and typically 400 cell count.

If emissions is your concern, stick with ceramic cores 300-400 cell count or find a factory pe set. The factory units actually flow quite well. A test years ago on a lt1 only showed a 5hp gain by removing the cats. They flow pretty decent, they just don't fit often when you put long tubes on or see the cost of genuine replacements.

Cheers

Hi Juergen,

The difference is only in California legal requirements. The CA version has to be state certified and stamped with a serial number. It's just a way for the state to make more money.

I haven't used Magnaflow converters on an LT-1 car, but they are very good quality and well-made.

Hope that helps

Marc

The cat converter are direct fit solution with 400 cell from ceramic. Do you think the 400cell ceramic magnaflow cats will works with the supercharged engine? I've 480RHP and 12psi on th charger. I'm afraid that the ceramic would be damaged through the exhaust gas pressure.
