Whatever this guy has, I love the sound of it. And it sounds big, but I know a smaller one would be better. I want something slightly larger than stock that will go in without many changes. What should I get?
Your L98 is built for torque. A good cam choice to add to what the engine is already making is Howards Cams # 180225-12. It is a retro roller.
Intake C/L is 108
The lobe center is 112 - I .450 @ 260 duration, E .465 @ 266 duration.
TPI needs @ 112 or more to be streetable if you run the AC and factory tune.
This cam pulls hard from 800 - 4800 RPM. After that you will need more air - intake. You might even see 1 -2 mpg gain. TBI trucks do.
You might meed a new distributor gear with the cam swap. Get the correct one for a roller cam. Get the "correct for the cam" NEW lifters too.
Make sure the car is tuned up and running at it's best before you do any mods. There are so many variables. Bigger is not always the way to go in a cam selection for a street car.

I'm running CompCams #12-238-2 XE262H-10 int 262/.462 ext 270/.469 sep 110 with their 1.6 roller tip rockers and springs/retainers.
All this fits under the factory valve covers without any modifications.
The result is a solid power gain and much better sound.
What ever you do don't get a cam from Ebay. I got one from an Ebay member that sells LT$ hot cam and CC502 knockoffs and ended up with a paperweight for a motor.... willhoites cams

I bought it several years ago it was the first mod I did.It went about 1k before it took my bearings out. It was the reason why I went LSx it was either rebuild or swap and after weighing the cost I went with the swap.

that is just an odd looking failure. It looks like something gouged it.

Kinda of wish I could have went lsx swap but the budget wouldn't allow for that :P
From what I have been told Its a problem with the hardening process. In person you can tell it slowly wore small chunks of the weld out and into my oil.

Man, that is just insane. Did they take any responsibility for it?

They said it only had a 90 day warranty. They did ask me to send the cam in so they could take a look at it but argued that what I was saying was impossible. I didn't send it to them I got the feeling if anything I was going to get just another crappy cam that may or may not blow up my next engine.
