Default Is a 92 LT1 engine compatable in a 1994

Have a 234k 1994 LT1 engine with a blown head gasket. Looking at using a 1992 LT1 with 60k as a replacement. Is this a simple bolt the motor to the transmission and put the motormount bolts in it kind of replacement? Concidering the newer parts on the lower milage motor an advantage to my high milage motor.

Is the intake and associated sensors compatable?

Any issues using a 92 motor that was bolted to a t700 on a 4L60?

Any sensors added to the 1994 that the 1992 doesn't use?

In general if this is a bad idea what year engines will easily bolt up to my 1994 trans?

Motor fit is not a problem
It is the electrics that vary
92 has the early non vented Optispark so IIRC you would need a adapter harness for the Opti spark to match your late (94/95) engine harness

The 92/93 ECM is also unique.

Intakes are also different in relation to the fuel lines and fuel rail. Simple solution, use the 94 intake on the 92 engine.

It's only slightly more complicated than that. If the 94 and 92 are both from vettes, you'll just need to swap a few parts from the 94.

Off the top of my head:
- throttle body
- intake manifold / fuel rail
- wiring harness
- water pump - I am not sure how the earlier pump is configured, but at 60k you should replace it anyway so just get a new later-style pump. If it was me, I'd change to the 95+ radiator hoses in the process and bypass the throttle body.
- optispark is the same, but at 60k I'd go ahead and replace it while it's out as well. At the least disassemble and inspect.

If you're swapping a B or F body motor then you'll have a bunch of other stuff to change as well.

1. Intake will work fine. But your fuel rail covers won't fit the '92. So swap the intake to your 94 or live without them. The '92 magnesium valve covers look 14% cooler.

2. None. Of course the '94 has the 4l60e whereas the '92 had the 4l60 and used the TV cable. Not an issue.

3. MAF was added in '94 but that is upstream of the intake so not an issue.

4. Sounds like a good idea but FWIW you could use '92-'94 without any major issue and '95 or '96 with a change of opti drive and vacuum provisions for the "vented" opti that was introduced on y-bodies in '95.
