Default 89 - Heat works intermittently

i lose the display on the climate control quite frequently but i can still turn on the heat, it operates the fan, but i only get hot air maybe 5% of the time (this is a rough estimate)... i dont think its a climate control unit problem, but then again i dont know.

its going to start getting cold soon and I don't want to be wearing winter clothes inside my car the whole time...

i removed my a/c about a year ago, but the heat has been like this for a number of years...

any ideas?

If the A/c head unit is not working correctly there is nothing to operate the stepper motor on the blend door than regulates the heat
Have you tried pulling the HVAC error codes ?

My first thought is the (common) issue with the blend-door-to-control-air plastic pin breaking. OTOH, something as simple as low coolant fluid can case it too.

where is the blend door to control air plastic pin located? and how would i go about fixing it?

coolant is fine, ive been checking and burping the system about once a week to make sure the air is out of the system

Flip the picture for correct orientation.

That motor/rod sits directly behind the ecm (computer). You have to have the lower vanity panel off to have a chance of seeing it.

When I've had access to mine, the ECM and it's housing were also out. Taking these off requires the removal of that rediculous PS bumper pad. Not an easy task either.

luckily i dont have that problem... had aftermarket wood paneling for a while but when that warped my dad a plastic black panel with the rear "CORVETTE" emblem glued on it... i take out some torx screws and have instant access to the VATS

havent had a chance to look at it or pull codes, swapped my master cylinder out today and bled the brakes

Just curious... Would a vac leak cause the blend door not to work?
