Hi I just joined this forum with J&D thanks for the welcome.
I have a problem, I just bought this c4 on sunday and now the engine is surging while at an idle and sometimes cut off.
Can anyone help me out and tell me what the problem might be? Thanks Storm.
When I got my 91 C4 it ran ok power but rough idle and engine surged at idle. After about a year of weekend driving I moved 5 hours away and on the drive to my new city, it died about half way there. Did not have my tools so I took to dealer, $2K later they got it running, but very poorly.
Advice from the forum was to check the resistance across the injectors. One was open circuit and one was a short. I replaced the injectors and the car runs great. Check my post "The Adventure Begins - C4 Help".
Same problem I just had. One injector's resistance was way too low and two others were borderline. Towed to repair shop where he found the bad injectors. He wanted $1100 for a new set of eight, installed. It wouldn't start for me to bring it home for repairs. I had him pull off the connector to the dead injector. It started right up and I got it home - but it still ran poorly on 7 cylinders (with two borderline injectors). But - it ran far enough.
I have a rebuilt set of injectors ordered plus gaskets. When I get them, my mechanic son will change them out. There is a video on Youtube showing the procedure step by step.
I am curious to know how you check injectors also... Not for my Corvette... For my Mom's 2000 S-10 Blazer... I have been chasing sensors, fuel pumps and filters, AIR pump hardware and all other different hundred dollar parts store adventures and it still runs like garbage... Only thing I haven't messed with is the injectors, so I figure why not?
