I have a question about codes I got a 34 code leading me to my MAF sensor after removing it cleaning it and reinstalling it. whan I restart the car now my service light is blinking instead of staying on but how can that be when I havent done anything that would lead to what they are telling me would be a misfire by the blinking light I'M confused
No I actually don't know anything about it at all went of the book that came with the OBD1 scanner and then referred to my haynes book for what to do now the car has a new problem. Would scanning again do any good. The only code I ever got was the 34 and am just trying to get this thing smogged where would I try to find these relays etc.....
Did you leave the paper clip in when you restarted it? The Service Engine light will blink to tell you open loop or closed loop (blink rate) if jumpered and running..
1st....Take the hayneys manual and see how far you can throw it. Too much invalid info and far too little detail for someone attempting C4 work at home...no electrical detail. Pretty close to completely useless although some folks do seem to think that the hayney manual makes a better door stop than the Childrens manual..
Spend $100 on REAL GM Service manuals. Links all over the place. Buy them used for less on fleabay.
Your MAF relays should be semi square, 2 mounted next to each other on the firewall behind the battery....one is power....(critical and the problem) other is burn-off, non critical but needed. Swap them, they are the same. IF that does not help, buy a new relay and swap it in both places...IF that does not help,. move to the MAF...BUT, a FSM will give you detailed direction and other test to PROVE the problem BEFORE you throw $$$$ at a maybe...these parts get very expensive very quickly. FSM is cheap and how you save your money.
Clean the plugs too....if there is ANY corrosion on the plug contacts...thats the bug. Wire brush contacts gently and reassemble.
Benny makes a great point...
if you started up with the ALCL jumpered, the ECM will go into the fabled "diagnostic" loop that is similar to open loop but it displays flash code while running. The blinking indicates that its in DM and not normal CL operation. Shut down, remove paper clip or jumper wire if you're fancy, and restart. If its still stuck then D/C the battery neg cable, reconnect and that resets the ECM and clears memory. These sometimes have a "phantom" memory that won;t go away until you wipe it by d/c the battery.
,a blinking service engine indicates a diagnostic mode, did you forgot your jumper clip?
The MAF is a very sensitive unit( and expensive)sometimes cleaning a MAF results in a ruined Maf...ask me how i know it
