i have a 1984 corvette and i cant get it to start i have all the lights and everything but when i turn the key it wont do anything i have a new battery and i also took the starter out and got it checked and it was good
Seems like I read a thread lately where a guy had similar prob. and it turned out to be a bad ground. Also was something mentioned about putting a jumper on the neg. terminal and then grounding on engine than try starting.
Better find the thread first though.
With key to start, check for 12v on the crank fuse. If no power to fuse you have a problem with either the starter interrupt relay being energized by the theft control module, or if manual, the clutch start sw. or if auto, the neutral safety sw...
i feel like i am dumb where is the crank fuse located at this is my first vette ive had it awhile but it has been sittin for awhile now to i can cross the solenoid out and get the car to turn overe and run if i spray starting fluid in it but nothing with the key

If you open the passenger door and look at the side of the dash by the side window defogger there is a compartment that contains your fuses, remove the screw and pry the door open..The crank fuse is the third one down, second from the left, s/b 5 amp.. It gets its power through the starter interrupt relay..
I just had the same problem, would click once per key turn, click came from interrupt switch by the blower motor for me. Turned out to be a bad starter. If you have access, I recommend getting a voltmeter and having somebody turn the key while you ground the ground and put the other lead on the post on the right side of the solonoid. If you get 12-14 volts when you turn the key the starter (or solonoid) is done for.
i got the starter checked it was good i can get it to click a few times but it only happens once in awhile when i turn the key most of the time it does nothing but every once in awhile it will click
What you pulled is the anti-theft fuse.. The horn is normally controlled by the ctsy/clk fuse in the fuse compartment.. If you pulled this you would be missing lots of things..
Thanks for this thread, went through all the steps listed and diagnosed the starter as the issue. I pulled it out and took it to Kragen. It benched test "ok" but with a caveat.
When I took it out, I didn't know how heavy it was until it wriggled out, once it did, I didn't have a good grip and it hit the ground a little hard.
If you've ever heard a shade tree cure, you know that you can sometimes crawl under your "truck " (not a vette) whack the starter with a hammer and get it to fire one or two more times.......when I dropped mine, I'm sure I jarred it past it's dead spot.
We'll there was no sense in putting the old 103k mile starter back in, so I got a $45 rebuilt unit and took it home.
Put it in, and have had no troubles since.......plus the new unit turns the flywheel much faster than the old one did. I should have recognized that the "Dragging" wasn't "just the way it is"
The last few weeks, I've been literally watching the voltage to see if my battery was going dead or to see if my alternator was going bad.........Duh!
