What are you using for a transmission jack? I have used this in the past, but it dosnt go high enough when the car is on the kwiklift. http://www.harborfreight.com/450-lb-...ack-39178.html
Seems I need something that goes up 36 in. or so. But would be a low profile to slide out from under the car with the transmission on it.

I built a platform to put on top of the jack and it worked fine.

I have used this one to R&R the ZF-6 gearbox on my '94 for clutch/flywheel/etc:

http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...jack-3185.html

It worked fine, BUT it would not drop low enough to allow me to roll the jack & transmission out from under the car. It wouldn't clear the Kwiklift's ramps on either side, and it wouldn't clear the Kwiklift's jacking cross-pipe to the rear. And, to the front, it wouldn't clear the Kwiklift cross-bridge I was using to support the jack I was using to keep the rear of the engine from dropping. So it was trapped under the car, and I had to work around it, which was a significant PITA. It goes high enough, but not as low as I'd have wanted.

The problem with adding the platform has been stability, and no way to roll it out from under the car. I have to seperate the jack from the transmission to get it out from under the kwiklift. And worse is putting it back by myself. Talk about a wrestleing match I think im going to loose!!

I looked at that one, but it says it goes up to 24 inches. When measuring mine, (automatic) I need at least 27 in. I would love to find one that would go 30-36in. so I could use it with other vehicles as well. We have a harbor freight store about 13 miles from my home. I will drive by and measure just how high it does go. Could be a misprint on their part or as high as they rate it safely.

It's worth checking the true height on the one in the store. I can't imagine the published height of lift is a safety issue. This one is inherently far more stable than the scissor unit you've been looking at. It has a pretty large footprint. It would take some talent to capsize it even with a heavy trans sitting at full-lift height. Good luck with the search. Maybe you could lower the car 3" by letting the air out of the tires.

You need the 800 lb capacity Harbor Freight Transmission Jack and the 3 Ton Capacity Harbor Freight Aluminum Floor Jack
