Default Muffler advice?

I'm needing to replace the mufflers on my '90 and there's a feller on the parts forum selling some magnaflows for an LT1; can these be made to fit? I'm not too concerned about the inlets as I'll be having new pipes fabricated from the front Y-pipe anyway, but I'm not sure how they'll fit the bumper openings and how they'll mount...has anyone done this before? Not necessarily magnaflow; I'd think any LT1 system would run into the same issues if mounted to a '90-back. Your input would be very much appreciated.

I believe you would be going from a 2 1/2 inch pipe to a 3 inch pipe, so you would need adapters for that, not sure about the muffler hangers, they may need to be modified too so they hang right.

I'm leaning toward the Corsa System for my 90!

I think mufflers are like tattoos -- you can't go by somebody else's advice/preferences. I don't like the noise of loud mufflers myself, but some people love to set off car alarms for blocks around when they start up...

You need to do the research and make up your own mind on what works for you.

Guys, I appreciate the input, I really do===but I guess I didn't ask my question clearly. I need to know if anyone has successfully used LT1 era mufflers on a '84-'90. Do they mount the same, or if not, what was involved in making them work, and how to the outlets fit the rear bumper, since it is a little different from the '91-'96.

Thanks!

Many people have done this and they will fit.You may have to modify/relocate a hanger and do some pipe bending on the inlet side but it is'nt a big deal for a competent exhaust guy.

Thanks! That's the information I was looking for. I'm not worried about the inlet because I'm having new pipes fabricated anyway; not problem making them fit. I was worried about the hanger to some extent and assuming it could be made to work, but was also concerned with how the outlets would look on the different-shaped bumper. I figured surely someone had done it; just wanted to be fairly sure before I pull the trigger on mufflers and then can't use them!

I appreciate you guys taking the time to respond.

Dynomax superturbo (they used to make a version with lt1 corvette tips - now discontinued) are what you want if you want free flowing, without drone.

This is what I have. I recently ditched my resonator for an xpipe and it works great even for long highway cruises

Now if your goals are noise, then you will want something else.

Corsa has more of a higher pitched, smaller displacement 'european' sound. Be sure to listen to youtube clips.

I have a set of '94 mufflers on my '86. They sound sweet. They stick out about 2" farther on my car than they did on the '94 i took them off of.
A good muffler guy might be able to fit them up tighter than i did, but not much.

You can make them fit

Sucks dynomax is discontinuing the super turbo line.
Its been replaced the the ultraflows. They do sound good and arent loud breathe like crazy. Do like the factory LT1 look though.

Now we're getting somewhere; thanks for the input. Sounds like it's very feasible. I was guessing it should work since the cars are basically the same, but wanted to hear what the pitfalls were. Any chance of a picture of the tips on the '86; curious how much more it sticks out and how that looks.
