Went to the drag strip for the first time over the weekend.Ran a 13.17@105 with a 1.95 0-60 ft. time. It's an '85 with a moderately built 350, a4, and drag radials. Had a lot of fun,but it's harder then I thought to do well. Left the line at a little over idle so there is time to be gained. That and my shifting was horrible, but will get better.Man there is a lot to think about in a very short time frame! Picture of the little pup being quite around the big dogs. at the starting line.
With a bit more practice you may well be in the mid twelves
Also try short shifting (shift early like 5,000 rpm instead of flat out as the TPI runners may be strangling it at high rpm seeing its a worked engine).
If you have gone to a mini ram well then just rev the sucker
Your cam should come with the operating range slip what rpm's its best at. Is it manual or automatic? (i got my 85 down to 13.3 with headers, cold air intake and adjustable fuel pressure set to 45 psi and timing more advanced with around 30 psi in rear tires with the original engine when it was naturally aspirated, so you should be able to cut another second of that easily. Wheel spin is an issue of the line)

Reason: more info
Waited till I got back from the strip before I read the post on leaving the line in second gear instead of first. That little gem could have saved my heart about 2,500 beats I may need later.(Yes 1st goes very quick). 700r4. Carb'ed. 268 cam.

I always use first it is a great launch gear in the T700 to get you of the line, sometimes some wheel spin is actually faster than bogging it down at the start. Try letting the auto shift in D not o/d D i found it was better than trying to shift it manually as you cannot hear the engine well with a helmet on. The short shifting was faster than revving the engine into the redline. Its all practice you can only go faster next time
After I got the hood done my brother-in-law warned me that the mustangs were going to come looking for me. With a performer-rpm intake, carb, and air cleaner I only have about a 1/2 " clearence.
