Just picked up the vette after the trans build in my 89. The builder said has your instrument lights always flash
I said no,they are flickering on off,or mayby just the tach flickering then the speedo. Its as if a short or bad earth..However i can drive for a while and everything works find then it all starts flickering again.
He said at the time ,they only pulled the distributor out,to lower the engine enough to remove the trans then put it back in,have they hooked something up wrong??
The grounds are loose. Shop needs to get it back on the lift and check at the back of the block on the drivers side.
Thanks,
Are you able to expand a bit more, is this like an earth strap attached to block or from the distributor.?
was this done when they removed the trans or when they pulled the distributor?
just trying to get a clear picture so they don't look at me strange and can point it out when I go back as the dont work on may vettes downunder :
There is a braided ground wire that goes from the frame to the left side of the block above the oil filter, there are also a few ground wires on a bolt to the engine though the gearbox bellhousing. The tach filter bolts on on the left of the gearbox belhousing to engine also.

The instrument panel ground wire is one of the wires that attaches to the left side bellhousing bolts. If the wire is left off or loose, this instrument panel lights go bonkers (been there, done that).
