Even though I ran over a deer last night, it didn't magically solve the pinging problem with the ZZ4 in my 87. So, I'd like to get set up to read and analyze some engine data to try to and solve this problem. I'd also like to do some chip programming sometime later.
From what I've read (not a lot), it seems like I should get a cable from AKM to connect to my laptop and use WinALDL to analyze the data. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Should I choose something different? Are there advantages to Diacom or EASE over WinALDL?
Down the road, I figure I can get editing software with an EPROM burner and eraser.
I considered getting an AutoXray because I can buy it and use it right away to see the data. But, then I realized the cable won't connect to my laptop, so it may not be the best for analyzing data.
I must say, I'm surprised! I expected to get flooded with opinions about which was the best software and hardware to use. I'm wondering if that is because most people choose one and stick with it? They don't really try others unless they have major problems (because it's too expensive). So, most people can't really compare alternatives?
