Just curious how you did it? I notice many are dented. I was removing my brake booster vacuum line, slipped and hit the left rear runner really hard, and it still didn't dent.
I don't know how you guys can possibly dent these things, minus dropping the car on them.
It seems that more '85s have dents, did Cheby possibly do something with the later runners to make them less prone to denting?
I only have one slight dent in a runner (at least only one that is noticeable).
I usually sit on the tire, Indian-style with my legs crossed when I am working on the car. One time when I was getting up and had a wrench in my hand, I fell forward. My finger took most of the smashing, but the runner took a wee bit from the 3/8ths drive too :D
The worst ones I have seen are third gens. They have smooth casted runners as opposed to our rough cast finish, so perhaps there is something to it.
My GTA has a dented runner and it drives me nuts. When I was polishing my IROC runners, the buff sucked them in and slammed them against the back wall and still didn't dent. I swear people must pull the motors and set them down upside down
My 85 has dents in 3 out of 4 of the tubes on BOTH sides:eek:.
This happened before I bought the car but I cant figure out how it could have happened & why the PO would have work done on a car (I know he didn't do it) and accept it back like that, those things were BIG $$$ from the general. Who ever did the work would have been putting new ones on if it was me.
I bought a good used set from a forum member and just have to get the time to change them and repaint/clean the plenum and valve covers too.
Oh crap, now I can add myself to the list. I managed to dent one of my replacement runners, the ones I bought to replace the ones that were on the car. :mad :mad :mad :cry :(
Hey! Who put those bolts on the inside of the Runners? Man, what a mess the rubber mallet made trying to get them to loosen up with those bolts still attached! What do you mean GM no longer makes 'em? Fortunately, the dent kinda popped backed out with a little pressure from a 12 inch socket extension.
