Default Msg for PurpleC4: thanks!

Back in late April I was hunting for a AC/heat controller replacement on the advice of a local mechanic (~$300. item). PurpleC4 replied with a suggested fix, touch up the solder or replace a couple of resistors on the controller itself.
I finally got around to trying it this past weekend and it worked like a champ! Fans blow all through the 1 - 10 setting, auto or manual, and just in time for the A/C season!

Purp, thanks again; your advice was dead on in every detail.

  :seeya

Sorry; I should have included this in my original post. Here's what Purp wrote

Bad Resistors on Climate Control PC Board

Chances are your programmer needs fixing. It is an easy check. The programmer is located behind your gas pedal on the firewall. It is black in color, approx 4"x6" with one bolt connecting it to the wall. It has one electrical connector and a small rubber square of 5 different color vacuum lines attached. Remove the rubber connector (bolt in the middle of the hoses) the electrical connector, and the bolt from the firewall. Open the unit and you will see an electrical board. Remove it and turn it over. In the upper right hand corner of the board are two resistors. The board may be discolored where the resistors are. Check to see if they are properly connected to the board. The soldier should be shiny silver. If they are dull gray or broken, the connection is bad. If you are not good at soldiering, take the board to a TV repair shop and ask them to check the resistor, (I think 120 ohm). If they are good ask them to solder the connections (10 second job). If they replace the resistors (49 cents a piece at Radio Shack) it is a two-minute job. (It cost me a cup of coffee at the TV repair shop to fix the board, and I walked in cold).
I would recommend this fix first. To buy a new programmer is $300.00. The programmer is notorious for going bad - just the resistors.
You may have a problem with the temperature door actuator or the rod connector, but it is highly unlikely. Let me know how you made out.

Spike,
Thanks for the Kudos! When I see a great response in a thread, I save it to a Word document, give it a title, then refer to it when the need arises. I thoroughly enjoy Tech Writing and have developed my share of procedures, but like I said ~ I won't take credit for other's work.

The information that you have referenced was written by another member ~ and well written at that. I don't think I could add anything to make it better.

I am glad to hear that your AC is functioning well...... Another success story!!!

I save them as well. I try to find a few minutes at work every day to browse the forum, looking for tips and fixes. I have a growing list of things I want to do to the car. I've yet to gat any bad advice off this forum. Aside from the car itself, it's the greatest Corvette feature I have come across.

Thanks again.
