Default Analog coolant temp sender - replace - 1992

Anyone replace the analog coolant temp sender? This sender (sensor) is located between cyl. 8 & 6.

I would be interested in knowing the tools you used. Cramped space doesn't allow a deep socket, and the electrical connector extends out too far for a standard socket.

I used an off-set closed-end wrench to remove the old sender, but having trouble getting the new sender threaded.

There are a multitude of threads concerning this sender, and the temp sensor on the pump, but no info about actual installation.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thanks for the response, Pingman326....... Finally figured it out, after about 10hrs. Cut 3/4" off the top of a 3/4 deep-socket. This gave me room to position a piece of plywood (2''x20"x1/4") behind the driver, applying pressure to keep it in position while slowly turning the ratchet. The sensor threads are quite accurate, and it took many attempts to finally catch the thread.

Good luck with the new plugs ....... (owned a '93 ruby for 12 years).

Why did you replace the sensor? Any changes? My 90 temp seems to read high. The fan does not come on until it the pretty near the top of the scale. I replaced the fan sensor under the TB already.

Cheers,
Scott

Used deepwell spark plug socket, 3/8" drive and had one installed in about 5 minutes, with the exhaust manifold on.

The sensor/sender was inoperable, Scott.

Mike, on the '92, the wire loom & dipstick tube are in the way. Even with everything moved, there is no clearance for a hand to keep the socket in place. Even my grandson's hand would not fit in the space.
