I seemed to have driven through some gray paint without knowing it and it has dried on the lower half of the car. I have tried just about every cleaner with no results. The only think left to try is to wet sand the clear coat off and have it reshot. Anyone have any suggestions?
I tried the rubbing compound with no results. I took the side panel off and took it to a auto paint supply store and they used everything they had and it didn't even budge.
I don't think a clay bar would touch it. I even tried to gently scrape it off with a razor blade and it didn't work very well. Thats some hard butt paint, battle ship grey and thick!!!! :mad
I'd give it a shot anyway........it may not work, but its cheaper than a repaint. You could also try laquer thinner depending on what type of paint it is. It shouldn't hurt you factory finish, but I'd still try it in an inconspicuous spot first to be on the safe side.
goof off comes water soluble as well, and might be a little easier on you r clear coat, good luck hope you get it off, , not sure also if a clear coat scrub from Mcguiars might work :D
Tried the McGuiars already, didn't do anything. I have no idea where it came from, I don't think it was there when I bought it but it looks like the paint the dealerships paint there service bays with. I can't remember the last time I had it serviced by someone with a painted bay. I guess I'll just get an estimate for a repaint if I can't get it off and eat my deductible. I hope my insurance agent doesn't put up too mush of a fight when he find out it will cost a few $GGGG to get it painted back right. MAybe I can meet him inthe middle and get a really good paint job worthy of a Corvette. I'll just keep my fingers crossed. :seeya
You may have run thru some synthetic stucco mix/paint. I got that on the wife's car. Looks like thick paint. I have been told that you can buff it off if you are careful. I was also told to go to a detail place and have them look at it. Another detailer told me he could take it off with a 4000 PSI pressure washer. Haven't tried any of the suggestions yet myself. My plan is to find a detailer that thinks he can take it off without hurting the paint. What a mess.
I am fairly certain that you can buff it off. My dad owns a painting business and he oversprays my vehicles all the time. I use a Milwaukee Buffer and 3M Microimperial Heavy Duty buffing Compund. This has removed all sorts of overspray on my vehicles for me. For windows with paint on them, I have found Very Fine Steel wool works good as well.
I've repainted my 98 blazer about 3 months ago and was able to get overspray off with that method.
Bummer! The facilities idiots at my employer, spray painted the parking lot dividing lines with our cars parked on it! I now have tiny little yellow and white epoxy dots all over the hood and passenger side of the car. I've tried most of the methods posted here without any luck. Whatever that paint is made of it's a tough compound after it dries in the sun for awhile. In my case the dots are very fine and almost difficult to see - unless you're waxing the car or the car is under indirect lighting. I've resorted to machine buffing the hood with some 3M foam glaze but it isn't touching these d***ed dots. Guess its going to take sanding or some more aggressive rubbing compound. Hope you find an answer to getting the paint off your car without re-painting.
