Default motor mount collapse?

I have an issue on my 92 convertible with my right side exhaust pipe now making contact with the X-brace just behind the cat. Everything appears to be tight, so I’m thinking that perhaps the R-side motor mount is starting to collapse, allowing the engine to tilt downward a bit on that side. Is that a possibility, i.e. can the hydraulic mount slowly collapse?

Also, how hard of a job is it to change the mount? Any tricks or recommendations?

shouldn't be particularily hard; the messiest part: removing that fiberglass (or whatever) insulating blanket from around the mount.

Whether to replace oem hydraulics with hydraulics is the question. Very reasonably priced aftermarket mounts made entirely of rubber are available at (I would guess) a considerable discount over the original hydraulics. When I researched hydraulic motor mounts vs solid rubber motor mounts, I found that in performance applications, replacing oem hydraulic with solid rubber is an upgrade (this includes porsches, saabs, rice rockets and other high end cars) .

I haven't found any polyurethane motor mounts for LT engines, although they are available for earlier and later engines.

One forum member produces solid motor mounts, which have been reported as quite successful by those that use them.

I've never heard of that happening, but I suppose it may be possible.

Should be easy enough to check, though. While parked, Have a friend watch the motor. Keep your food hard on the brake and shift to reverse, then drive (if it's an auto) or same concept if it's a stick. You just want to get some torque on the motor testing in both directions (forward and reverse) to see if it moves.

When I had one of my motor mount bolts come loose, I was able to rock the motor by hand, but I had to push like heck!

If I read the info correctly Rockauto sells solid mounts, $25-$29.
