Any suggestions what to buy for my 1st scanner for my 93? Im not looking for anything to technical. Thanks Dave
Went with a Snap-on MT2500 scanner for a few reasons (known as the red brick).
a. Vintage OBD1 reader for that year (pre-OBDII).
b. Shows codes and live data... not just codes.
c. Was originally a $5,000 tool 20 years ago... now seen on ebay starting around $200 on up.
d. Various affordable plug-in modules available. The 2 modules specific to the 93 are:
Primary cartridge for GM-Chrysler-Ford-Jeep (Domestic combination through 1996)
...Or buy a relatively cheap cable (~$70) and get free scanner software for your laptop.
I have even heard of people taking their desktop computers into the garage to scan their cars. If you don't have to do it very often then that's a viable alternative.
Somewhere around your year GM started the "push a magical combination of buttons" to display the codes on the dash.
You need to download the files relevant to your car here to work with the program above
You need the two files in $DA2 row ( 92/93 Vette ) http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadBinDefs.htm
Then you will be back here asking questions on how to run it
