if you already have decided that number one is "dead" what does that mean? plug fouled? is it the correct plug?
these important questions have been asked before, with no response -or maybe I missed it.

is it possible that number one plug wire is damaged? have you been puncturing it to check timing? etc.
if the cylinder has been showing compression -finger test, whatever- it isn't dead. maybe not ideal, but may be normal for an old engine.

before I tore an engine apart I would be certain what the problem was that I intended to solve. as you said, it has been over a year, and you are back to the same issues.

add: I agree: forget the leak down test, and start a new thread
the following had ben done.
number one cylinder is not working. if i disconect the fuel injector wire it make no diferance on the engine. thsis cylinder is not working for sure.

I have good spark. new spark plug same that i use in the rest of the cylinder. and work ok in the other cylinder. and yes those are the correct spark plugs. i already cover this in other post.

new spark plugs. 2 week old. i change because i was covering the basic.

timing ok everything is ok. compreasinon test on that cylinder is low in my opinion,

all the ignition systen is almost new spark plugs , wires, distributor componets, injectors are good, good volt on injectors wires. good spark on spark plug.

new development.

since i dont have the leak down test tool. and I just dont have the butget to get one at this time. I decided to open the cylinder head this afternoon.

I just finish opening up the right side head. I can confirm I have a leak on exhaust valve on cylinder one. I did the water test and that valve is leaking all over.

test the other and look ok no leak.

to bad I dont have pictures since i give my phone to my son. to go to the movies.

any way. I can confirm number one cylinder exhaust valve have a leak.

the piston walls look ok i use my finger and is very smoth. intake valve also look ok also did the water test. the only valve leaking is the one i mention above.

will open a new post with pictures as soon as I can.

Ya could have confirmed that by doing the "poor man's leak down" that I described earlier.

Glad you figured....something out.

If I had one or more cylinders showing low compression I would add some oil to those cylinders and test it again. If the readings are higher then most likely the rings are worn. Either way I would have the heads tested and/ or rebuilt as well.
