At first turn of the key the motor almost catches then it just keeps turning over. I can hear the fuel pump prime, put in a new fuel filter, still no start. Any thoughts? By the way, what is the filter just above the fuel filter? It's a canister type.

That second filter is the return filter to keep the fuel return ines from banging against the frame when the engine is cold.
It is an old service bulletin.

um..............are you thinking what I'm thinking? change that thing and see if things get better.

In all reality, I think you have a distributor module problem.
