Last Friday, I went to the track and bested a 14.0XX @ 101.XXXmph. I noticed that a few singatures and posts mentioned 101mph putting out mid 13 sec runs. Any ideas on the difference between theirs and mine?
It was in the high 80s before sundown, I set tire pressure @ 35psi. and had 1gal of 110 octane race gas on top of about 3gals. of fuel. Engine temp was in the 180-190 range. 60' times were around 2.1.
Thanks for the help. I guess I'd better get ready to buy a helmet.
:yesnod:
Thanks, vader86. I figured that since I did 99mph @14sec the first time out with the 35psi in the tires, I'd better leave well enough alone. Next time I'll set it at 25psi and get to rockin! :boxing I'll post what happens when I go again. It may be even better since I am getting my radiator routed out Friday. :seeya
It's all about the first 60'. If you're running you're regular radial tires I wouldn't take the pressure down too much because it can make the tire "Bo" and put even less rubber to the ground. Also unless you're spraying nitrous or have a blower I don't think I would use the race gas. Maybe if it was 110 degrees outside and you thought you were getting detination, but otherwise it's probably not doing you any good either. Is your car an auto or 6-speed and how did you launch it?
Leave the race gas for the race cars. The only reason you need it is if you are detonating on pump gas. Like everyone said, the 13 second slip is all in the first 60'. I get 14.0 @ 101 in my wifes car every time out. I have only broke into the 13's once in her auto vert with 2.59 gears.
