It's the secondary air injection (air) check valve-pipe replacement - bank 2, in the service manual it tells you to remove the intake manifold, can it be done with out removing it.
Thats what I was thinking...but the intake coming off? I honestly do not see how !
I've changed check valves before..on the pipe. 90% of the time it doesn;t matter anyway because the pipe is rotted and/or the valve is rusted to the pipe and something gets destroyed in the process.
You can replace the pipe/tube section with something else as long as the stems to the ex manifold are ok. I used some HD wire braid hose to fit over tubing and clamped it in place. Several yrs later its still there no leaks.
I have no idea why the FSM would want to pull the intake...unless its a chitlen manual or haynes manual thats got generic work descriptions that came from a yugo manual.
I do not know what yr you are talking about, but the L98s of the late 80s did not need this. The AIR pipe system is over the ex manifold and has next to nothing to do with the intake,.Your yr model MAY be different but I cannot see how. If you do not see the need then don't do it unless the FSM has a very specific reason.
