I saw a write up in a popular mag that did before and after dyno testing with a very expensive long tube and full exhaust on a LT1.....Six HP gain. That is how good the stock system is. L98....different story.
" Don't be fooled by the stock exhaust mqanifolds on the LT1. The cast manifolds the factory used are very effective..The tubular shorty headers that are sold by the aftermarket companies are less effective than the stock manifolds. GM tested both types of exhaust manifolds when it was developing the LT1. The company found that the cast headers offered improved flow over a welded manifold because of the smoother interior surfaces at the transistion points....This is a case where the aftermarket is selling a part that GM rejected. Don't get seduced by the advertising" ;

The 15 Hp stock difference in the near identical ( head / cam ) LT1's was attributed to the better exhaust on the Vettes
vs the one used on the F-Bodies
95 Corvette had 300 horsepower and the same year F-body had 285 horsepower,
And before someone says it ; Vette LT1 had 4 bolt mains but that doesn't add any Hp

Not to sound but whats the difference in the L98 then the LT1 motor that makes more power??
