Default 1984 Coolant Sensor

Can anyone tell me if the current sensor in my car, looks like a spark plug with a porcelin top, was replaced with another sensor currently available for the car?

Does:

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050F

Replace:

http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...032_0331801145

Reason I am asking as this was never replaced in the car and the porcelin tip seperated and will not come out of the connector. I was wondering if anyone has replaced with the newly available sensor and changed the wire harness.

Thank you in advance.

Is it at the front of the intake, under the air pump? If so, thats the coolant temp sensor, those ealy ones had a connector like a knock sensor, except w/ 2 wires. They were trouble some, thats why they have an updated design.

Yes that is it on the front of the engine. So I am assuming I can purchase the newer part and wire harness. Thank you.

Or visit your local junk yard. Any tbi equipped truck will have it, almost everything after 1985 had that. You don't have to worry about which wire goes where.

That's the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) that the ECM uses. It's the one in the first link. The one in the second link is NOT the correct part.

Early GM cts were like the second one, read my post, the connector looks like a knock sensor hook up.

Project completed, car starts up no issues and best of all no codes.

Thank you all for your guidance, 1 more project left before she hits the road!
