1) my '93 has the elctronic AC control and the temp button doesn't work. Any suggestions? It displays the outside temp, then when I try to adjust the temp up or down it reads 27. Nothing changes.
2) I tried to recharge the AC system, but it's not taking it out of the can. FWIW, I've changed to 134A from R12. I checked the orifice valve and it was fine. The compressor won't come on at all because there's no coolant in the system. What else would keep the system from drawing the coolant from the can.
I've been lurking for a while and finally registered. I've been on camaroz28.com for several years and recently upgraded from a '93 TA and a '93 Z28 to the vette. I like the '93 LT1s. :)
First off-Welcome! On the buttons-they can "stick". I took mine apart and cleaned them all with a q-tip and contact cleaner-fixed that problem
You can pull the low press. switch and jumper it to engage the compressor, otherwise it'll take a while for the freon to build enough press. to cycle it-like up to 20min. if you jumper it and it still won't draw the freon in, then it's time to check the pressures-a friends car was just doing that-turned out the press. stayed the same low and high side-it was the compressor died.....

Re: need AC help... (rguy)
Do you have the correct valve for the A/C. I switched my A/C over and had to change the valve. I also thing that you will need to replace the control. Mine had a mind of its own, All the problems went away after replacing it.
I had the same problems in my car it did not make any difference what bottom I hit on the controler so I thought it was it but it was the AC programmer changed it and everything worked fine
The AC compressur will not come on if it is low you will have to jump the compressur, I had to run a wire from the fan to the compressur.
Carefull carefull guys your playing with fire. You need to have a set of gauges on the car to see whats going on. The a/c if the switch reads it low will not come on by normal means --it sets a code in the controller. You can disconnect the battery to clear this on most gms. If you have retro fitted to 134 then your charge amount is 85% of the orig 12 amount. the system probably has a low pressure switch a high pressure cutout and a fan on switch when it reaces a certain pressure. If you are "bump charging" the car you need to know what your pressures are cause too much 134 will act just like not enough and seriously stress out the compressor. Likewise the fan not coming on will "quick cycle" it too. The gauge readings all depend on type of refrigerant and ampient temp. In general you are shooting for between 35-50 lowside with comp running --and 250-325 high side. The original orafice tube should be okay with 134 if there is no junk on it. A/C work can be very dangerous if you dont know what you are doing -- please see a pro --or be very very carefull. Eye, hand and body protection should be worn at all times.
the a/c control (c68) is about $125 at "the last detail" catalog. don't be afraid of the c68 it is the eaisest part on your car to change. the first time it may take 45 min. once you know where all the screws are ... 15 min. i've changed mine twice.
