Sometimes as I come to a stop the engine is missing or stumbling until the car actually stops and then it smoothes out to normal. I also noticed it doing this at hiway speeds and I lose power but if I tap the gas it with smooth out. Any ideas? I'm planning on removing and cleaning the TB and the IAC but don't really think that the problem is there. Thanks in advance.
Sorry about that but there are No codes or sys lights. What seems odd to me is the way it stops as the car stops.I'll have my foot on the brake and it will be running real rough and just as it stops it smooths out perfect. It's like it's linked to the tranny or speedo somehow. I bought it 5 months ago and don't know when the plugs & wires were changed (if at all), but the opti was changed by the previous owner about 6 months ago. I have washed the motor but was careful to stay away from Mr. Sparky and it hasn't rained here since then (AZ. it's a DRY heat) so hopefully it isn't that. I just can't figure the link to moving- not moving. The fuel pump/screen was replaced 4 months ago but not the filter so I think I will throw one on this weekend. Thanks for the help guys. Seeya, Robert
YOu might check two things that come to mind. Veh.Speed Sensor and the Park/ neurtal switch (assuming it's a auto).....both those affect the IAC and the p/n also affects the EGR. Can produce the symptoms your're describing. Just a thought.
Long shot, but it happened to me: inspect the rubber boot between the MAF and the throttle body. You should go ahead and take it off because you won't be able to see underneath. Discovered mine was split along several folds, which allowed unmetered air into the TB. Symptoms were a miss at idle, hesitation at tip-in, and loss of power with some black smoke when I got on it. I *think* the unmetered air was causing the O2 sensors to find more oxygen than expected, leading the PCM to add more fuel, causing a rich condition. Anyhow, replaced the boot and problem went away immediately. Gas mileage improved quite a bit, too! Good luck.
