I Bled my Clutch because my fluid got to low and I think I got air in the line. The car started fine before I did this. I put it all back together and I checked the travel of the fork and it was good but now the car won't start. I have all the Dash lights and even charged the battery but nothing.
Help!
There is a clutch start switch located on the clutch pedal that won't let the car start unless it's fully depressed. It could be this if you did clutch work. Try adjusting the switch, or it could be broken.
I've bled the clutch on my '95, but I don't know for sure it's exactly the
same as the '86. When the seal on my slave cylinder failed, I could
still start the car no problem, even though the clutch didn't work at all.
Test the clutch switch with a meter. If it doesn't close, unplug the
harness and bridge it with a test wire.
I stopped by the local Chevy Dealer and talked to the Service Manager and he said the switch probably went bad. This is hard for me to believe because it started up this morning before I Bled the system. This makes no sense because the switch works off the pedal not the push rod.
You better just test the switch. Then you can look elsewhere if it tests good. Do the easy stuff first. Trust me, I've overlooked plenty of easy things because I thought, "no way it could be that 'cuz that just worked fine this morning."
I had to adjust my rear brake light switch, and there are like 3 pedal acuated switches down there. If I remember correctly the switch almost seems to be threaded. And you just push the switch towards the pedal to adjust it. That's really vague, but I don't know how to say it better.
Bleeding the clutch and no start aren't related. When you hit the start position on the ign sw can you hear a relay click behind the center of the dash? If you can, then the VATS is ok and you should unplug the connector from the clutch switch and jump the connectors and try a start. If no start, then measure the voltage on the jumper on the clutch switch, it should be 12v when the ign sw is in start. If no 12v, then the start enable relay or the ign sw are not making contact. If 12v but no starter action, then the start solenoid is defective or you have a poor battery connection ( clean your batt cable lugs, batt terminals and reconnect cables). If you cannot hear the start enable relay click, then try your spare ign key as its pellet contacts are not worn like your everyday key. If no start, then unplug the 2 pin connector under the carpet by the steering column and measure the resistance on the wires from the steering column with the ign key installed, the resistance should be the same as the pellet. If the resistance is over 10k ohms, then the ign sw is defective. You can get your car to run until you can get the ign sw replaced by connecting a fixed resistor the same value as the pellet onto the 2 wires going over to the passenger side.
