Default 93 LT1 Stroker SPEED DENSITY oR MAF ???? HELP!!

I am Building a 383 Lt1. I am, hearing mixed replies on whether i should change over to a MAF 94-95 setup. I am using a LT4 intake maifold, so i do need the newer style fuel rail ( with crossover ). My biggest concern is idle quality with a cam with a lot of duration. Is it worth the hassle to convert?? Plz help!!!!!!!!!

As long as the tuning is correct you shouldn't have any problems. Phil(Hoover) runs speed density with a big 244@.050 solid roller and his car is a daily driver. I've seen 94+ maf cars with big cams idle great, plus a stroker will tolerate more cam. Can you give any details of your set up? What size cam are you considering and is your car auto or stick?

It's easier to get a car to idle with speed density. With a big cam your vacuum will be low and the flow across the MAF will be really low. I couldn't get my big cam to stop surging in my 86 (but that was a slower computer system).

My friend down here has a big cam in his 94 MAF car and it idles well and doesn't surge. I also calibrated his MAF to give 128 BLMs at idle.

What about maxing out the MAF readings? I modeled a 396 stroker with AFR racing heads and the grams per second went over 400  but it was turing 7800 RPMs.

im not going with too big a cam, im using Canfield Lt1 heads ( 300+cfm ) and a mild cam, i am also going with solid roller lifters. I want to make sure that i have the car setup properly. The shoppe i go to has more experience with MAF and tell me it is the way to go. Speed density takes longer to burn chips... trial and error, but MAF can be programmed via their laptop and offers more tuning parameters >> so they tell me..

I was under the impression that with proms you can make real time changes as you go, where as with 94+ pcm you need to flash every time you make changes. Regardless, which method takes longer the important factor here is proper tuning with a wide band 02 sensor to dial it in.

Good Luck

Stay with the speed density. The swap to mass air is a real pain. If you upgrade any computer I would swap in a F.A.S.T. computer that was also formerly known as Speedpro The factory speed density may take a little longer tuning time, but will work very well.

No the heads arent worked for the intake, its the other way around. The Lt4 intake is machined to fit the canfield heads. The Lt4 has better injector positioning, and the ports are tuned for better air distribution than the lt1 intake.

What is this F.A.S.T. computer that is available.??? IS this a replacement for the stock computer?? anyadvantages???

seems Speed density may be the way to stay.......

Seems the stock computer is too slow to process above 7000rpm, thats what the computer tuner at the shoppe is telling me. Is this true???
