i have long tube headers and x pipe exhaust..im getting the rear o2 sensor codes..how do i delete it? my friend said to program it out..but when i look for one they say you cant reprogram the 96 model? has anyone done it on a 96 corvette? mines the lt1 automatic. send me a link to a good programmer if you can program them
I have a 96 lt4, My headers came with only one inlet for o2 sencer. All the people I talked to said you cannot program it out of an OBD2 computer, so I tapped into the wires of the sencer I could install and hooked them to the other side in an attempt to fool the computer.I have had it this way for a year now or about 700 miles with no ill effects and no codes
When I transplanted the lt4 into my 96 auto car, I used my automatic computer and (I can't remember now it's been a while) either sent the computer to be reprogrammed or a chip inside it. Don't recall if 96 has a chip or had to send the computer out, or if I just bought a chip for it outright.
But, In addition to the hot cam programming (higher idle, more fuel etc)l, I had the front crank sensor deleted from the computers checklist, the rear o2 sensor and since the lt4 didnt have egr, that was deleted too. Along with all that, I had shift points and firmness raised and fuel cut off and rev limiter raised....all by a popular camaro tuner whose name escapes me right now. All this was in attempt to get the car from having CEL...and it worked great.
Edit: Looked it up, done by Madz28. I had no other experience but I would do it again.
