Had my car about 2 weeks, now. It has 85k on it. I am noticing that when I really accelerate and shift fast, i can smell the clutch. I also think it may be slipping very slightly when I shift from first to second, since there is hardly any wheel spin. When I have it in a high gear and give it throttle, it shows no sign of slipping. I am thinking I need to replace the clutch and if so wonder which one would be a good one to go with. Is this something I can do myself, as I put 3 clutches in my Mustang one summer alone..
Dont laugh but I went to advance auto and got my clutch assembly there. It cost me about $350 or there-abouts. It's a Zoom brand but made by centerforce supposedly. I absolutly abuse mine. As a matter of fact I have an autox in the morning. I put mine in at 60k miles I now have 85 k no problems. Did I say I was rough on it? Let me be sure. I abuse my clutch. It also is the only one I've found to date that has a lifetime warranty on it. It's a limited lifetime so that means you only get 1 free replacement but no one else I've seen does that. I abuse it with no problems to date :p:
I replaced mine about 6 months ago. I bought the clutch from dialclutch.com and paid around $320 shipped. I had the flywheel resurfaced, clutch installed, and new 2 new u-joints done for $500 from my mechanicn. The clutch is made by Valeo and out grips the tires, so works for me. Other members have said that Valeo makes the plate for LUK.
Cheers
