MAF or SPEED DENSITY?? IS it worth the conversion????
I have a 93, with speed density setup. Is it worth the conversion to MAF?? HELP me!! my switch to MAF is pending on your responses. Psychowette@hotmail.com

Why do you want to switch? Speed Density is required for things like Supercharger, TT, and hp numbers over about 450. A conversion to MAF wouldnt make any sense, IMO. Speed Density is more sensitive to mods where MAF would adjust. But why do you want to switch?

From what i just learned from the shoppe, MAF may get maxed out with a 388 stroker but, It will give better idle, smoother acceleration, better gas mileage as well. The big advantage is that with speed density they tell me that i will have to burn chips and see how it goes.... needle in a haystack. With MAF they can flash burn in seconds.... makes for better tuning. what do u think?

Properly tuned, the SD system will have little difference in idle quality. Both will need reprograms, but SD might need a little more refinement. If you want the best, stick with SD. With the 93, either way you would need a new chip. So what difference does it make.

difference is the chips for SD cost quite a bit, and getting it right is like hitting the bullseye, not very likely on the first try = $$$ MAF they tell me can be connected to laptop... simple as do a run..adjust...do another and adjust some more. Saves time and guesswork. Also they tell me that there are more things to play with with a maf computer.

From what I have read on this forum, I think you may be confused on which system is more 'adjustable'. I know that those of us with the older maf system more often change over to speed density because it is easier/ has more tuning options. With fords its the opposite, so if the info you have been getting is from one of the blue oval guys.......it's going to be a little different. I suggest you post in the ecm tuning section of the forum, you might have more luck there. Good luck!
