Hows the condition of the rest of the car besides the ignition nightmare?

I have just acquired a 1986 Corvette with a carbureted (chevy 350) I believe. It seems to be a wiring nightmare and I really need advice, schematics, and or wiring diagrams. The cooling fan seems to come on with the key turned to ON position. It has a fusible link. The ignition switch does not start the car. The switch must be in ON position,(fuel pump can be heard, seems to be hooked to fuel pressure regulator under hood) then flip toggle switch(PNK wire with fusible link I think), then I have to press a button to start the car. Is there a simpler way to wire this up so the switch can crank the car. I really appreciate any advice, and or help. God bless.

those $20 helsm repair manuals have the wiring diagrams in them...E-bay has the FSM from several sources for around 85 bucks...(I need one too for my 86). What part of the country you in? keep your eye on craig list for vettes being parted out..Be aware that in 86 , there is the E and L versions...Early/ Late...usually, but not always, the late has aluminum heads, early has the iron ones..they also have expensive targa tops if replacing, keep an eye on yours...and it a 150 core charge on them. Welcome to the forum..lots and lots of great info can be had here from guys that know their stuff. Dont forget the wave.

The helms makes a great fire starter!
The Factory Service Manual provides good troubleshooting charts and other diagrams. Too bad its been hacked to a carb. There's no telling what the guy did to the wiring.

lol, he does have a good point..but if you dont have a FSM, its a good starting place since it is better than nothing. Perhaps you can go to the libary to get a copy of the wiring.., I am sure someone here will post it for you...i cant post pics or I would. best of luck

The wiring diagrams from a Helms will do you no good. Your only option IMHO is to attempt to match what you have with what it is supposed to be. That, I suspect will require an FSM. Will not be easy either.

HELM is the publisher for the GM FSM !!!!!
OP - There's nothing really "not to like" with a push-button start if it's wired correctly. I'd spend some time trying to understand what the PO maybe intended. Are all of the connections properly terminated? Now if it's a "rat's nest" of maybe single colored wire, scotch-locks or twist connectors then it likely needs "rethought!!! Spend some time and sort it out in your mind first.
