Cleared up my code 42 and
a multitude of other problems. Checked my shop manual on code 42 (something I should have done sooner), and it indicated the code was due to either a short in circuit 423 or a bad ignition module. Got a new module, and installed it. Also noticed that the plastic piece where the wires came through the distributor was broken off, and several pieces where inside the distributor. Cleaned all those our, wrapped the wires where they came through the distributor, and !presto!!, the code 42 disappeared! Also cleared up an erratic idle I had been chasing for over 6 months, and an occasional misfire at speed. Also cleared up the backfire on the first start. Car pulls hard again, and spped is better than ever. I can smoke the tires again!!!
I would suggest all who have that erratic idle and misfire to check your ignition module....it sure made a difference in my car!! :smash: :lol: :yesnod:
