Default Instrument Panel Issues

I've been having problems with some of the gauges. The tachometer reads erratic above 3500 rpm. The water and oil temps read approx 25 degrees high. Are these issues that can be corrected with an instrument panel rebuild? Ecklers has a rebuild service but it doesn't mention anything about these kind of problems.

Many times these problems can be fixed by cleaning the grounds on the engine block.

On older cars they attach to a bolt on the side of the block above the oil filter along with the negative battery cable.

Newer cars have a ground stud on one of the transmission bellhousing bolts on the driver's side.

Sometimes the instrument panel connectors get loose and make a poor connection. The power and ground connections then get hot and go bad. See here:

Thanks for the link. The grounds are all clean and tight. From what I've read online, gauge issues are typically attributed to bad diodes. Now I need to find a reputable repair shop. I've considered converting to analog gauges but that's a bit pricey.

Good morning,

What year is your corvette? We do have the cluster service, and the service will go through the cluster and test everything, and anything bad is replaced.

We have a great success rate with many customer's clusters being fixed.

Thank you, if you need any further assistance please call us. - 1-800-327-4868

Thanks for the reply. Mine is an 85. My understanding is that most repair services are for displays that flicker or don't light up. That's not the problem with mine. In my case the gauges are reading high. So before I send it off for repair I was hoping someone could tell me if a dash repair is possible. I've replaced sending units but that didn't help.
