Default 12 bolt torque arm pictures

Before installing my fresh 4l60e I took some pictures for those interested in my straight axle setup. I am utilizing a torque arm similar to an F-body. The torque arm and transmission mounts are connected to a birdcage in the inside console connecting the outside framerails to a bar running in front of the seats to two bars connecting the rollbars. Unfortunately the computer storing the interior pictures died and took the pictures with it. The console now covers the birdcage. This is strong enough to support the car if a jack was placed on the mounts.

Willie, do you have a track bar or locator bar on the rear, do the torque arm keep the rear located.

Hi Randy, here is a picture of the panhard bar and the antiroll bar.

Willie, I like that setup. Do the torque arm improve the weight transfer on you car? I know that the weight distribution is 52/48 on the C4. Does it act as a lever, to help the car hook harder.

Sort of like one long ladder bar. Looks like someone put a lot of thought and effort in that.

It is like a long ladder bar. My fabricator friend did spend a lot of time at the drawing board figuring out center of gravity and roll centers and other stuff I have no clue about. In the first picture shown is a zerk fitting on the bottom front of the torque arm that services a hardened sliding shaft so the arm won't bind during rear suspension movements. The reason he chose this approach is because he thought a 4 link suspension would have such short arm lengths that it would be difficult to get the weight transfer of the torque arm without chopping up the car. In essence, when the tires plant, the front of the differential wants to go up. This force is transferred to the belly of the car via the torque arm which lifts the front of the car and transfers weight to the rear tires. There are other C4s out there with 4 links that work really well, so obviously this is just one approach. Here is a picture of weight transfer.

I did not notice the slider built into it. Very cool. You have a damn good chassis guy, to make that car leave like that and go straight down the track. Impressive.

Cool car Willie!

I purchased a Strange 9" with alum center for my 92. Just waiting to get it in the shop. I too have a friend who will be setting it up. As of now I am going with a Triangluated 4 link with no locator. I am hoping it will still handle well. The other option will be a Watts Linkage.

When I get it started I will post photos.

Regards,
Steve

Thanks Jack. Actually, when we first set this up, it didn't have the antiroll bar. The car would roll over to the right. Got a couple of real good looks at the right wall.

Wow, cool setup. Very well designed and thought out. Its neat that it is hidden inside the console. Sounds like you got a good chassis fab guy. Obviously you've been running this setup without failure and its proven.
Gotta love it.

Thanks, I broke a ring gear on the last race of the season after Thanksgiving. I won the first two rounds and then had to put the car on the trailer. 450 10 second runs on this gearset. Not bad.

Clearly a nice solid setup as demonstrated by your head-on pic showing a nice solid and *straight-ahead* launch vs a twisting mess

Yes Jack. It's a Strange 12 bolt setup for F body cars with the torque arm mount.

Looks good , A short 4-link set will work fine they are just a bit more sensitive to adjustments . The links on my car are on the short side but i was able to pull a 1.26 60foot with my SBC .

1/8 mile run and it was a 5.63 ;-) ... It was late in the year so the track was only running to the 1/8th

Well, you're almost a second quicker than me to 1/8 mile marker. I'd say you're in the eights.
