Does anybody know anything about the ADS Superchips? They're only $100 compared to hypertech's 190. Also the difference between the street and strip versions. Thanks.
nope there still in business, i had a super chip in my 91, i had to run 94 octane to take advantage of the timing increase, and yes it helped, i could tell right away.
I have a copy of an ads B chip, for the 160 stat, being mailed to me from a buddy. Should have it this week, we shall see. Im not entirley sure a the copy will work.
Ads offers a chips for the 180 stat, b for the 160 and c for 160 and no cat
a custom chip would be best, but the ads is much better than the hyperjunk
Were you having a detonation problem or something with the lower octane fuel? I would like to be able to stick to 89 or 92 fuel and I hardly doubt that I have enough mods to take advantage of a custom chip.
Back before I installed my supercharger, I tested three chips over a week on my 88.
Only Mod's where open air filter lid, K&N filter, superturbo mufflers, airfoil. 160 deg thermo, MSD capacitive ignition.
Average about 5 runs each.
Stock GM chip 14.18 @ 101
ADS chip 14.40 @ 98
Hypertech chip 14.16 @ 100
the ecm was pulling timing with the ads unless i ran the 94, but i did notice a 0.2 drop off my et, over the stock chip.
My copies showed up today, they work fine. I definitley noticed a smoother transition to wot, and the car does feel a bit stronger on the top end, but im still running the 195 stat and was burning 89, i'll do some testing with some 94 and the stock chip vs the ads when i get a new stat.
theres a good possibilty superl98 had lower times because the ads was too agreesive and the ecm was pulling timing, this has been mine and others experience.
The hypertech is crap. Ive seen them consistently slow cars down, but the ads has consistenly sped them up.
Its basicly like jetting a carb richer and advancing the timing on an old muslce car, your going to need to extra octane and cool engine to get any benefit.
I guess all that I'm really wanting from the chip is the earlier fan switch so I can run a 160 t. stat. I need to get my temps down at least into the 170 to 180 degree range because I can tell a world of a difference in how the car runs and performs when it's cooler. Maybe I should just go for the manual switch on the fans. It would be cheaper.
Notice the spark is only affected in the very last 2 columns, and over all it adds about 5 degrees timing. I cant look at the ve tables until the p/e adder is decodedr, but at least the ads does do something.
Remember to add your base distributor timing to the value in the cell.
btw you'd get the same effect by advaing your timing and turning up your fuel pressure for a track run, then turn it back down for the street
Some of you guys actually use BELOW 93 Octane fual in your vettes!?!?!!?
My car was coughing even when she was BONE stock with 89octane...
LOW octane =
:U
ive looked at the v/e table (mixture) its the same as the stock chip, no change, i dont know if theres a power enrichment mode on the chip yet though, possibly they change the mixture a little.
i run 89 octance most of the time, and try not to goto wot as much as i can. This is a daily commuter and 94 octane gets expensive, but it does make a noticble difference.
