Am going to remove Maf sensor to clean and notice clamps holding it in place to the rubber air bridge from air cleaner to throttle body are a type I have never seem before. Are they reusable? How do you unclamp them, there is no screw to loosen them. Do you squeeze them or twist them to loosen them and then reinstall them in the same way? Will I need new ones to reinstall Maf sensor?
Do not attempt to clean it remove the screens spray carburetor cleaner or poke it with your finger
They cost big $$$ and as the previous poster they are self cleaning
Companies like CRC make Maf sensor cleaning sprays and I have read numerous articles on many sites about cleaning Maf sensor's. Self cleaning feature must not work very well. I have read on this forum about people with problems that went away after they cleaned their Maf sense.

They're self-cleaning if the MAF burnoff relay (or module on '85s) is working. It's very common for the relay contacts to get dirty and then the burnoff doesn't work. This seems to be especially true of '86s. I think they changed to different relays in later years.
One other problem on '86s is that the MAF power and burnoff relays are different internally but have the same connector. It's easy to accidentally swap connections and then the burnoff doesn't happen. In later years the two relays are the same, so no problem.
