How does the future look for the old mighty L98? Now with the super ram off the market. What is the next step? No more spare parts being made?
Just som toughts....
Well Considering the SUperram is just an intake and there are 30+ years of the standard SBC I don't think everything is going to go away.
Also with the Super Ram going away Holley just introduced a Stealth Ram. I just think Lingenfelter and Accel have decided to call it quits on that intake
There is still a future for the L-98. Lets not forget that camaroes, firebirds, and a hole slew of trucks also have l-98's in them. I think that the SR isn't selling as much as it used to due to it's high cost and abundant used market for these things. It just isn't economical for them to produce something that doesn't sell as well anymore.
I think there will be aftermarket support for the L98 will only increase as these cars get older and cheaper. Look at the Ford 5.0L--it hasn't been produced since '94 and almost 10 years later there are more 5.0L aftermarket parts for that engine then there has ever been. That longblock was also based on design, the 302, but fitted with a roller cam and a long runner torque-tuned manifold. The 5.0L and the L98 are practically twins in terms of design philosophy and both sold well.
I think the cancellation of the SR is more a sign of a bad relationship between Lingenfelter and Accel or something along those lines. Perhaps the SR's high price and their reputation for being hard to work with finally caught up to them. Who knows....
I spoke with LPE today and they told me than the L98 super ram was not discontinued...rather the LT1 intake was....go figure  Anyway, I ordered my SUPER RAM and INTAKE!!!!!! Finally decided to to it. ;)
A guy told me this yesterday when i told him i had one made me pissed, "yea as a boat anchore, cause that's what they are. Why waste your money and time on it. Get an LT1 and start with a real engine." Well he lost my business.
